LinCA Chair Speaks at Conference about Workforce of the Future

Last week (7th November) we attended the Greater Lincolnshire LEP’s annual conference at the Lincolnshire Showground. The theme of this year’s conference was the workforce of the future.

Our Chair Melanie Weatherley MBE took part in a panel discussion about the future of the workplace and the workforce and what that may look like in 2035 in Greater Lincolnshire.

The panel took questions from the audience and topics included the opportunities and challenges that come with having a multi-generational workforce.

The subject of AI was also mentioned, and Melanie went on to explain that although AI can help carers in some aspects of their work, it will never be able to replace that personal touch that goes into care. The supportive gesture of holding a vulnerable person’s hand is something that a machine would never be able to replicate.

Melanie said: “I was really excited to be invited because care is not often thought of as part of the jobs for the future.”

“But actually, listening to Dr Paul Redmond (keynote speaker), there is a lot we can offer to millennials and Gen Z and I’ve gone away from here thinking I need to sell that. I need to talk to our young people to tell them what we can offer to them and what they can offer to the people that we support.”
