22/12/2020   Three Christmas good news stories to make you smile

The COVID-19 pandemic may mean that Christmas is a little bit different this year, but care organisations across the county have been going above and beyond to spread the festive cheer. From reindeers in Lincoln to seasonal crafts and homemade cookies in Spalding, there is no shortage of the Christmas spirit for Lincolnshire care workers!

Country Court Care get competitive this Christmas

This year, Country Court Care Homes in Spalding decided to spice up their seasonal celebrations with their “Deck the Halls Christmas Competition.” Throughout December, each of the provider’s homes have been decorating their building with homemade decorations, taking part in festive crafts, baking tasty treats and singing carols, all while reminiscing about Christmas’s past. Each week a home has been named winner for their efforts, with the prize of a new year’s party for the overall winner of the competition. This includes Beech Lodge Nursing Home, who landed first prize in week two for their fabulous reindeer brownies.

Treats for tests at Walnut Care at Home

Langrick-based domiciliary care provider Walnut Care at Home came up with a sweet tactic to ensure their staff remembered to undertake and send off their weekly COVID-19 testing kits this December. Founders David and Melanie Weatherley purchased more than 200 advent calendars for their staff, not only as a thank you for their hard work this year, but to help them to keep track of the dates!

Managing Director David said: “The advent calendars are a gift to show the team our appreciation, but come with the added benefit of helping them to track the days so they don’t miss a test.

“We’re grateful to have such a dedicated workforce who always go the extra mile for those they care for, and we like to make sure they know how much we value their hard work – not just at Christmas or during a pandemic, but all-year-round.”

Music and Christmas magic at Ridgeway Care Centre

This year, the residents of Ridgeway Care Centre in Lincoln were treated to a mini, socially-distanced concert from the City of Lincoln band. The band performed classic Christmas carols for residents, who could watch safely through the centre’s large bay windows. Residents also enjoyed mince pies, while family members stopped by to say hello through the glass.

Manager Helen Patrick said: “We had family pictures taken, but with our residents inside and their family members outside, so loved ones could have a photo with mum or dad, but everyone is safe.”

“Everyone had a good time, and the day was really well received.”
